Kitchen Redesign Plans: Where Function Meets Roma Style

Hey roomies!!

Okay… it’s officially happening. We are stepping into one of the biggest transformations in this new house — the kitchen redesign. And if you know anything about me, you know this isn’t just about pretty cabinets and cute hardware (although don’t worry… we will absolutely get there).

This is about function, flow, and creating a space that actually works for real life.

Choosing the Right Contractor (Because Vibes Matter)

Let’s start with something very real — contractors.

I’ve been meeting with a few, and let me just say… not all energy is created equal. Some talk a lot. Some promise a lot. But the one I’m leaning toward? He showed up prepared, focused, and ready to actually work.

And that matters.

Because when you’re trusting someone with your home — your vision — your money — you want someone who respects the process, not just the paycheck.

Why the Layout Is Staying (Even If Everything Else Isn’t)

Now here’s where design meets practicality.

Even though this kitchen is getting a full glow-up, the overall layout (or footprint) is staying the same. Why? Because moving plumbing, electrical, and major structural elements can get expensive very quickly.

So instead of tearing everything apart, we’re working smarter:

  • keeping what makes sense

  • improving what doesn’t

  • and elevating the entire space without unnecessary chaos

Because yes… we love a transformation, but we also love a budget that behaves.

The Vision: Clean, Elevated, and Intentional

Let’s talk about what’s changing (because this is where it gets fun):

  • Cabinets going all the way to the ceiling (goodbye awkward gaps, hello elegance)

  • Switching to an undermount sink for a cleaner, more modern look

  • Removing the raised bar top (because we like flow, not walls pretending to be counters)

  • Adding a proper vent hood (function and statement piece? Yes please)

  • Reworking the island for better storage and usability

  • Fixing little design moments that just… don’t make sense (looking at you, refrigerator wall)

These updates may sound small individually, but together? They completely transform how the kitchen feels and functions.

Where We’re Saving (Because Smart Is Stylish Too)

Now let’s have a quick reality check — not everything needs to be replaced.

Some of the appliances are newer and in great condition, so we’re keeping them. Because throwing out perfectly good pieces just for the sake of “new” isn’t always the move.

We’re also keeping plumbing and electrical in similar locations, which helps keep the project grounded financially.

Because the goal isn’t just to make it beautiful — it’s to make it intentional.

Designing for Real Life (Not Just Instagram)

Here’s the part that matters most to me:

This kitchen has to work.

It has to:

  • hold everything we actually use

  • support daily routines

  • make cooking, gathering, and living feel easier

  • and flow naturally into the rest of the home

I’m already thinking beyond just the cabinets — storage, organization, accessibility… all the things that make a kitchen feel effortless instead of overwhelming.

Because a pretty kitchen that doesn’t function?
Not the vibe.

The Beginning of Something Beautiful

This is just the start of the conversation. Nothing has been demoed. Nothing has been installed. But this is where the magic begins — in the planning, the intention, and the decisions that shape everything that comes next.

And I wanted to bring you in early so you can see how a real design process unfolds — not just the finished result, but the why behind every choice.

Thank you for being here, roomies
For trusting the process, embracing the messy middle, and getting excited for what’s coming next.

Because this kitchen?
It’s about to be so Roma.

As always…
I look forward to creating with you
