House Hunting with Intention: The 3 Things That Truly Matter

Hey Hey Roomies!

Let’s talk about house hunting… because if you’ve ever gone through it, you already know — it’s not just about price, location, or how pretty the countertops are.

It’s about how a home feels, how it functions, and whether it gives you space to actually live your life — not just decorate it.

In today’s video, I’m sharing the top three things that mattered most to me when choosing our new home — the things that go beyond the basics and truly shape how a house becomes a home.

1. Flow, Flow… and More Flow

If there’s one thing I will always prioritize, it’s flow.

And not just “this looks open and pretty” flow — I mean real-life, everyday movement.

How do you walk in from the garage?
Where do your bags go?
Does the kitchen connect naturally to the living and dining areas?
Can people gather without bumping into each other or feeling disconnected?

Because let’s be honest — a house can look stunning online, but if the layout doesn’t make sense, you’ll feel it every single day.

For me, the downstairs living areas had to feel cohesive. I wanted a space where cooking, entertaining, relaxing, and just living could happen effortlessly.

Pretty is great… but functional is forever.

2. Natural Light (Because Mood Matters)

Next up: natural light.

Now, does this house have the same dramatic, wide-open light as our last one? No. And I’ll be honest about that.

But here’s what it does have: light where it matters.

Soft morning light in the right rooms. Enough brightness to create warmth. Enough openness to build on.

And as a designer, I’m already thinking ahead:

  • adding doors

  • adjusting windows

  • layering window treatments

  • enhancing light instead of forcing it

Because light isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about how a space makes you feel.

And I’ll take intentional light over overwhelming light any day.

3. The Balance: Finished vs. Full of Potential

This one might surprise you… but I didn’t want a house that was fully done.

Yes, there were homes we saw that had all the upgrades. The finishes. The details. The “move-in ready, don’t touch a thing” vibe.

And still… I passed.

Because for me, it was important to find a home that still had room to create.

A space where I could:

  • design with intention

  • personalize each room

  • build something that reflects us

  • and do it without completely blowing the budget

There’s a difference between buying someone else’s vision… and creating your own.

And you already know which one I chose.

It’s Not Just About How It Looks

At the end of the day, this home search wasn’t about finding the most perfect, polished house.

It was about finding a space that:

  • functions well

  • feels right

  • gives us flexibility

  • and allows us to grow into it

Because a home isn’t just something you walk into — it’s something you build over time.

Final Thoughts, Roomies

If you’re in your own home search season, let this be your reminder:

Don’t just look at what’s trending.
Don’t just chase what’s shiny.
Don’t just follow what everyone else is doing.

Pay attention to how a house lives.
How it supports your routines.
How it allows you to create something meaningful.

Because the right home?
It won’t just impress you… it will fit you.

Thank you for being here, roomies
And as always…
I look forward to creating with you!
