What I Won’t Be Doing in This House (And Why That Matters)

Hey Hey Roomies

Okay… let’s talk about something a little different today.

Because while everyone loves a good “here’s what I am doing” moment (new furniture! new paint! new everything!), I think it’s just as powerful—maybe even more powerful—to talk about what I’m not doing in this house.

Yes… boundaries. In design. We love to see it

No Copy + Paste Design (We’re Not Pinterest Clones, Roomies)

Let’s start here.

I love inspiration. I live for a good mood board. Pinterest? She’s my girl. But what I will not be doing is copying someone else’s home and pasting it into mine.

Because your home should feel like you.

Not a trend.
Not a replica.
Not a “this looked good on Instagram so I did it too.”

This house is going to reflect:

  • how we live

  • what feels natural

  • what actually works for our day-to-day life

And that means making choices that are personal, not just popular.

Furniture That Feels Like a Conversation, Not a Showroom

Let’s get into layout… because this is where things get real.

One thing I care deeply about is creating spaces that feel inviting and conversational. Not just “visually correct.”

You know the setups I’m talking about:

  • perfectly aligned furniture

  • everything facing one direction

  • looks amazing… but feels like no one should actually sit there

We’re not doing that.

I want spaces where people can:

  • connect

  • talk

  • laugh

  • actually feel comfortable

Because design isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it feels when you’re in it.

The House Doesn’t Make the Rules—I Do

Just because a house is built a certain way… doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.

And no, I’m not saying we’re tearing everything apart (we’ll get to that), but I am saying I’m not letting the current layout dictate how we live.

That includes:

  • rethinking backyard use

  • reimagining patio flow

  • shifting how rooms function

Because the goal is simple:
Make the house work for us
Not the other way around.

No “Change for the Sake of Change” Renovations

Now let’s talk about the big one.

I will not be knocking down walls just to say I did something dramatic.

Yes, open concepts are beautiful.
Yes, big renovations are exciting.

But also… they are expensive, time-consuming, and not always necessary.

Design is about being smart and intentional:

  • knowing where to invest

  • knowing what can stay

  • and understanding that not every upgrade is worth the cost

Sometimes the best design choice is working with what you already have—and elevating it.

Designing with Intention (Not Pressure)

At the heart of all of this, this video is really about one thing:

Intention.

Knowing:

  • what fits your style

  • what supports your family

  • what feels aligned

  • and what simply isn’t worth forcing

Because not every trend is meant for you.
Not every idea belongs in your home.
And not every “popular choice” is the right one.

And that’s okay.

Final Thoughts, Roomies

If you take anything from this, let it be this:

You don’t have to do everything.
You don’t have to follow every trend.
You don’t have to make your home look like anyone else’s.

Your home should feel like your life—not someone else’s highlight reel.
