Summer Memories, New Beginnings & the Heart of Home | Why the Little Things Matter Most
Hey Roomies!!
Summer has always been one of my favorite seasons.
The days seem a little longer. The sunshine feels a little warmer. The laughter comes a little easier. And somehow... life has a way of slowing down just enough to remind us of what truly matters.
But if I'm being honest with you...
Summer has also become one of the most emotional seasons of my life.
Not because anything is wrong.
But because this time of year holds so many memories.
Some make me smile.
Some still bring tears.
And all of them remind me that a home isn't built by furniture... it's built by the people who fill it with love.

A Summer Filled with New Chapters
This summer has been one of change.
Alexa and I are slowly settling into our new home, unpacking boxes that somehow hold so much more than dishes and picture frames.
Every box tells a story.
Every room reminds me that we're not just decorating a house...
We're creating the next chapter of our lives.
As we begin restyling each space, I'm reminded that good interior design isn't about filling empty rooms.
It's about creating places where life can continue to unfold.
The Things We Keep Are Never Just "Things"
One thing I've noticed while unpacking is how certain pieces immediately stop me in my tracks.
A photograph.
A favorite frame.
A shell collected from a beach years ago.
A souvenir from a family vacation.
A handwritten note tucked inside a drawer.
To someone else...
They're just objects.
To us?
They're time capsules.
They remind us of laughter we can still hear.
Vacations we never wanted to end.
People we wish we could hug one more time.
That's why I've never believed decorating is only about buying new things.
Sometimes the most meaningful pieces in your home aren't the most expensive.
They're the ones with stories attached to them.
And honestly...
Those stories are priceless.
Hawaii Will Always Feel Like Home
Every summer seems to bring me back to Hawaii in one way or another.
Not always physically.
But emotionally.
The smell of fresh flowers.
The warmth of the sun.
The sound of laughter around a dinner table.
The feeling of slowing down enough to appreciate the people sitting beside you.
Some of our family's most treasured memories happened there.
Those trips weren't just vacations.
They became part of our story.
And every time I unpack a photo or find something that traveled home with us, I'm reminded that home isn't always a place.
Sometimes...
It's a feeling you carry with you.
Love Never Really Leaves
This season also brings memories of Jim.
Our anniversary.
The birthdays we celebrated together.
The traditions we built as a family.
There are moments when unpacking feels less like organizing...
And more like opening little chapters of our lives.
Grief has taught me something I never expected.
Love doesn't disappear.
It simply changes shape.
Sometimes it shows up in a photograph.
Sometimes it's a favorite chair.
Sometimes it's a vacation memory that suddenly makes you smile instead of cry.
And that's a beautiful thing.
Because while people may leave this world...
The love they gave us continues to live inside the homes, traditions, and families they helped create.
Designing a Home Around Memories
As an interior designer, people often ask me where I find inspiration.
The truth?
It's right here.
In real life.
In family.
In memories.
In the little moments most people overlook.
Anyone can buy beautiful furniture.
But creating a home that tells your family's story?
That's where the magic happens.
That's why I always encourage my clients to display the photos.
Use the heirlooms.
Frame the handwritten recipe.
Keep the travel souvenir.
Mix old with new.
Because those are the details that make a house feel deeply personal.
Your home should look like it belongs to you—not a showroom.
Life Changes... and That's Okay
If this season has taught me anything, it's this:
Life is always changing.
Children grow up.
Homes change.
Dreams evolve.
People come into our lives.
People leave them.
And somehow...
We keep moving forward.
Not because we forget.
But because we choose to carry the love with us.
There's something incredibly beautiful about realizing that a new beginning doesn't erase the old one.
It simply gives your story another chapter.
Final Thoughts From Roma
If I could leave you with one thought today, it would be this:
Don't wait for life to be perfect before you start making memories.
Take the trip.
Display the family photos.
Celebrate the birthday.
Plant the flowers.
Cook the family recipe.
Call the people you love.
Fill your home with laughter.
Because one day, those ordinary moments will become the memories you'll treasure most.
At the end of our lives, we won't remember every piece of furniture we owned.
We'll remember who was sitting around the table.
Who laughed in the kitchen.
Who hugged us in the hallway.
Who made our house feel like home.
Thank you for letting me share this season with you.
Thank you for celebrating the beautiful moments alongside the bittersweet ones.
And thank you for continuing to be part of this incredible community.
Because around here, we're not just designing homes.
We're creating places where love, memories, and new beginnings can live for generations.
As always, roomies...
I look forward to creating with you.
