Have you ever traveled back to a place that once felt like home... only to realize it wasn't the place you missed the most?

As I packed my bags and headed back to Colorado, I thought I was simply going to revisit a city that had once been such an important chapter of my life.
Instead, I found myself reconnecting with the people who helped write that chapter.
The friends who knew me before Rooms By Roma.
Before YouTube.
Before so many of life's changes.
The people who watched me grow, celebrated my successes, picked me up during difficult seasons, and loved me exactly as I was.
Some friendships don't just last...
They become part of who you are.
Sometimes Home Isn't a House
When people hear the word home, they usually think about four walls.
A front door.
A favorite chair.
A beautiful kitchen.
As an interior designer, I absolutely believe our homes should be beautiful.
But after this trip, I found myself thinking about home a little differently.
Because sometimes...
Home isn't an address.
Home is the feeling you get when someone smiles the moment they see you.
It's the hug that says, "I've missed you."
It's the friend who remembers stories you've forgotten.
It's laughing so hard your stomach hurts because the people around you knew you long before life became complicated.
That's the kind of home I found waiting for me in Colorado.
The Friendships That Grow With You
One of the greatest gifts of this trip was spending time with friends I've known for decades.
We talked.
We laughed.
We told stories we've probably shared a hundred times before.
And somehow...
They only get better with age.
We remembered my years coaching gymnastics and all of the wonderful people who crossed my path during that season of life.
It's funny how memories work.
Sometimes you don't realize how much someone impacted your life until years later when you're sitting together, smiling about moments that seemed so ordinary at the time.
Life has a beautiful way of reminding us that the smallest moments often become the biggest memories.
The People Who Help Shape Your Story
As I reunited with friends and drove through Denver, I couldn't help but reflect on how many people quietly shape our lives.
Some enter for a season.
Others stay for a lifetime.
The friendships I revisited during this trip reminded me that true relationships aren't built on convenience.
They're built on consistency.
On showing up.
On celebrating each other's victories.
On encouraging one another through life's unexpected turns.
The older I get, the more I realize that success isn't measured by how many people know your name.
It's measured by how many people know your heart.
And I feel incredibly blessed to have people in my life who have walked beside me through so many different seasons.
Revisiting the Places That Hold Our Memories
Driving through Denver brought back so many emotions.
There were familiar streets.
Favorite restaurants.
Old neighborhoods.
Places connected to Jim.
It's amazing how certain places can instantly transport you back to another time.
A single street can remind you of a conversation.
A familiar view can bring back laughter.
A favorite restaurant can remind you of someone you loved deeply.
Those memories are gifts.
They remind us that even though life keeps moving forward, love never really leaves us.
It simply finds new ways to stay close.
Interior Design Is About More Than Beautiful Rooms
People often ask me where I find inspiration as an interior designer.
The truth is...
I find it in people.
I find it in memories.
I find it in the stories that every family carries with them.
Because a beautifully designed room isn't beautiful simply because the furniture matches.
It's beautiful because of what happens inside it.
It's where birthday candles are blown out.
Where holiday traditions begin.
Where friends gather for hours around the dining table.
Where children grow up.
Where quiet conversations happen after long days.
Where healing begins.
The furniture creates the setting.
The people create the magic.
That's why I've always believed that interior design isn't just about decorating a house.
It's about designing a life.
The Most Beautiful Homes Feel Loved
As I visited with lifelong friends, I realized something I've believed for years but felt even more deeply during this trip.
The homes we remember most aren't necessarily the biggest or the most expensive.
They're the ones where we felt welcome.
The homes where someone always had coffee ready.
Where laughter filled the kitchen.
Where stories were shared around the dinner table.
Where you never felt like a guest.
You felt like family.
That's the kind of feeling I hope to help create through every project at Rooms By Roma.

Life Changes... Love Doesn't
As we talked about how much life has changed over the years, one thing became so clear.
We've all grown.
We've all experienced joy.
We've all experienced heartbreak.
We've all become different versions of ourselves.
But genuine friendship has a remarkable way of growing with us.
Real friends don't expect you to stay the same.
They cheer you on as you become who you're meant to be.
And what a beautiful gift that is.
A Home Filled With Love Will Always Be Beautiful
If this trip reminded me of anything, it's that our homes should reflect the people we love, not just the trends we follow.
Display the photographs.
Keep the handwritten notes.
Frame the memories.
Bring home the souvenir that makes you smile.
Use Grandma's serving bowl.
Mix old treasures with new beginnings.
Your home should tell your story.
Not someone else's.
Because years from now, no one will remember whether your sofa was the newest style.
They'll remember how your home made them feel.
