Summer Is a Feeling: Creating a Home That Feels Like Sunshine

Hey Roomies!

There is something magical about summer.

Maybe it's the longer days. Maybe it's the warmth in the air. Maybe it's the way sunshine sneaks through the windows and somehow makes everything feel a little lighter.

Or maybe... summer is simply a reminder that life is meant to be enjoyed.

As an interior designer, I often tell clients that great design isn't about creating a picture-perfect room. It's about creating a feeling. And summer has always been one of my favorite seasons to design around because it naturally reminds us to slow down, open up our homes, and enjoy the spaces we've worked so hard to create.

Summer isn't just a season.

It's a mood.

And your home should feel like it.

Let The Light In

One of the first things I do every summer is take a fresh look at how light moves through my home.

Natural light changes everything.

It makes rooms feel larger.
It lifts your mood.
It highlights beautiful textures and colors.

Sometimes the simplest summer update isn't buying anything at all.

It's opening the blinds.

It's pulling back heavy drapery.

It's letting the sunshine do what it does best.

Because trust me, roomies, sunlight is one of the most affordable design upgrades you'll ever find.

And unlike that impulse purchase you made at 11:00 PM online... it doesn't charge shipping.

Summer Is Nature's Design Season

If you've followed me for any amount of time, you know I love bringing nature indoors.

Fresh greenery.
Cut branches.
Seasonal flowers.
Even a bowl of lemons sitting on a countertop.

These little moments instantly make a home feel alive.

One of the biggest mistakes people make with interior design is thinking every update has to be expensive.

It doesn't.

Some of the most beautiful design moments happen when we simply connect our homes to the seasons around us.

Nature has been styling spaces long before any of us discovered Pinterest.

Create Spaces That Invite Connection

Summer has always felt like a gathering season.

Family comes over.
Friends stop by.
Kids run through the house.
People linger a little longer on the patio.

And honestly?

Those moments matter more than any furniture piece ever could.

When I design homes, I think about connection.

Can people comfortably gather here?

Can conversations happen naturally?

Does this room invite people to stay awhile?

The best rooms aren't always the fanciest.

They're the rooms where memories are made.

Stop Waiting For Perfect

Can I lovingly call out all my roomies for a second?

Some of you are waiting.

Waiting until the renovation is done.

Waiting until the furniture arrives.

Waiting until everything is "perfect."

Please stop.

Summer doesn't wait.

Life doesn't wait.

Your home doesn't have to be finished for you to enjoy it.

Light the candle.
Use the fancy dishes.
Sit outside with your coffee.
Invite people over.

Enjoy your home now.

Because some of life's sweetest memories happen in spaces that are still a work in progress.

A Season For New Energy

Every summer feels a little bit like a reset to me.

A chance to clear out what isn't serving us.

A chance to embrace more joy.

A chance to create spaces that support the life we're living today—not the life we're waiting to live someday.

Whether you're refreshing an entire room, swapping out a few pillows, planting flowers in the yard, or simply opening the windows and letting fresh air in...

You're creating something.

You're creating an environment.

You're creating memories.

You're creating home.

And that's always worth celebrating.

Final Thoughts From Roma

If I could leave you with one thing this summer, it would be this:

Don't focus so much on making your home look perfect that you forget to make it feel good.

The most beautiful homes aren't the ones that impress people.

They're the ones that welcome people.

The ones that hold laughter.

The ones that tell stories.

The ones that feel lived in, loved, and uniquely yours.

So this summer, roomies...

Open the windows.

Let the sunshine in.

Create a little beauty.

Create a little joy.

And most importantly...

Create a life you love inside the home you've built.

As always, thank you for being here.

I look forward to creating with you
