Styling with Class: My New Cabinet Glow-Up
Okay, let’s set the scene: after what feels like a million Pinterest scrolls, countless showroom walk-throughs, and more “almosts” than I care to admit, I FINALLY found her — the cabinet of my dreams. Yes, I’m talking about the cabinet. You know the one: the piece you didn’t know you needed until suddenly you’re obsessed and can’t stop picturing her in your space. That was me the moment I walked into Bassett in Downtown Summerlin. I saw this beauty, and it was basically love at first sight. Cue dramatic music.
Now, don’t get me wrong — finding a cabinet might not sound like the kind of milestone that deserves a parade. But here’s the truth: when it comes to creating a home that feels intentional, every piece matters. And this cabinet isn’t just about storage; it’s about story. It’s about filling vertical space with intention, showcasing personality, and curating a little slice of “this is me” behind those glass doors.
And today? Oh honey, today we’re styling.
In my latest video, I take you through my full process of styling vertical storage, and let me tell you — it’s a balancing act. Think of it like assembling a charcuterie board, but instead of cheese and crackers, we’re playing with ceramics, books, greenery, and little treasures that make my heart happy. (Although, now that I think about it, cheese boards on cabinets might not be the worst idea…)
Here’s what you’ll see in the video:
Mixing textures – Flat books meet shiny ceramics meet leafy greens. Texture is everything when it comes to creating depth and movement, so I make sure each shelf has a variety of “feels.”
Balancing shapes – You know how one oversized vase can throw off an entire shelf? Or how five tiny trinkets look like clutter instead of curation? Balance, babes. It’s about giving each piece its moment to shine without overpowering the group.
Layering color – I had so much fun pulling pieces from CB2, Essence, Home Depot (yes, Home Depot came through for me!), and even a few personal finds I’ve collected over the years. Together, they create a palette that feels rich, layered, and personal.
Editing, editing, editing – This is the part most people skip, but honestly? It’s the most important. Just because something is cute doesn’t mean it belongs in this space. Sometimes, less really is more.
And can we just take a second to talk about what styling really means? Because it’s not about throwing random “pretty things” on a shelf and calling it a day. Styling is about storytelling. It’s about letting your space evolve over time, mixing old with new, high with low, splurges with steals. It’s about creating balance while still letting your unique personality shine through. That’s the magic.
One of my favorite things about this cabinet project is how it reflects the bigger philosophy I use in all my designs: intentionality. You don’t have to style a space overnight, and honestly, you shouldn’t. The best homes are the ones that feel collected, curated, and layered over time. That’s what makes them feel alive, personal, and full of character.
So if you’ve been staring at your own empty cabinet, shelf, or even just a sad, lonely corner of your living room, this video is your permission slip to play. To experiment. To move things around, to swap pieces in and out, to edit and then re-edit. (Pro tip: if it looks “off,” it probably is. Trust your gut, babes.)

And hey, if you’re stuck on your own design dilemmas — whether it’s choosing a cabinet, a sofa, the right paint color, or even figuring out if your rug is actually the right size (because let’s be real, rug math is no joke) — I’d love to help. You can always book a virtual consult with me at roomsbyroma.com. Together, we’ll make your space feel intentional, functional, and, of course, fabulous.
At the end of the day, this cabinet project isn’t just about filling shelves. It’s about creating a home that feels like me. And I want you to feel the same way about your space. So grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine, I don’t judge), hit play on the video, and let’s style together.
As always, I look forward to creating with you — and maybe adding a little sass along the way.
