A Cozy, Collected Christmas Tree Tour (Not the Ralph Lauren Trend… and Here’s Why)
Hi Roomies
If you’ve been scrolling through Pinterest or TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen the trend of the season — the famous Ralph Lauren Christmas tree. It’s moody, it’s luxe, it’s gorgeous… and trust me, I adore Ralph. His clothes? Stunning. His dishes? Don’t even get me started. But this year, I wasn’t feeling the urge to buy an entire new look just to keep up.
So instead, I went back to what feels like us.
In today’s Christmas tree tour, I’m walking you through our 2024 holiday décor — a mix of copper tones, deep velvet reds, rich textures, artisanal details, and ornaments collected over time, not copied from a trend. If you want a tree that feels warm, curated, and personal, this blog (and the video!) will give you all the inspiration.

Why I Skipped the Trend (Spoiler: It’s About Heart, Not Hashtags)
The Ralph Lauren vibe is having a moment — and I genuinely love the drama of it. But sometimes, the trends feel like pressure. Pressure to buy new ornaments. Pressure to reinvent a tree that already holds years of memories.
This year, I wanted something:
Collected, not copied
Comforting, not performative
True to us, not to the algorithm
The result? A tree with:
Copper ornaments that glow like candlelight
Red velvet accents for depth
Hand-selected ornaments in clusters
Pinecones and picks to fill in any bare spots
A not-quite-a-tree-topper topper that’s unconventional… and a little bit like me
How to Create a Tree That Looks Luxurious and Lived-In
If you want to recreate this look, here are the decorating strategies I show in the video:
Layer Your Ornaments
Don’t just hang — layer. Start with larger ornaments inside the branches to build dimension. Then add medium sizes, then your statement pieces.
Cluster Your Colors
This is my favorite trick. Instead of evenly spacing everything, create intentional color groupings to draw the eye.
Use Picks & Pinecones to Add Texture
These fill gaps beautifully and instantly make the tree look more lush. Copper, bronze, frosted greenery, and simple pinecones all work wonders.
Try an Unconventional Tree Topper
This year’s topper is unexpected, sculptural, and not your typical star or angel. It gives the tree personality — and honestly, don’t we all need a little personality at Christmas?
Alexa’s Tree: A Tradition I Treasure More Each Year
One of my favorite things in the entire house during the holidays? Alexa’s Christmas tree.
It’s playful, it’s colorful, and it’s completely her.
Think:
Donut ornaments
Music notes
Jellyfish (yes… and they’re adorable)
Disney-themed memories
And her yearly request to “tie the trees together”
Decorating her tree is a reminder that Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be yours. Kids have a way of reminding us what joy really looks like.
Honoring Jim & Carrying Traditions Forward
Throughout the video, I also share pieces of our story — including memories of Jim and the way he transformed Christmas after Alexa came into our lives.
Grief during the holidays is complicated. It’s soft. It’s sharp. It’s sacred.
But decorating the tree is how we honor what we had, while making room for what’s next.
This year, we’re heading back to Disneyland for Christmas — a trip that holds so many emotions. It’s bittersweet and beautiful, and it’s one more way we’re learning to move forward while still keeping him close.
Whether Your Tree Is Trendy, Traditional, or Totally You…
I hope this year’s Christmas tree tour inspires you to decorate from the heart — whether you’re styling a moody designer tree, a nostalgic kids’ tree, or a funky, unexpected masterpiece that only your family could pull off.
